ServiceNow Platform Analytics: Level Up Your Analytics Game and Create Next-Gen User Experiences

It’s time to transition to ServiceNow Platform Analytics. Want to know why and how? This blog post gives you the answer!
In today’s data-driven business world, implementing advanced analytics solutions is no longer a choice but a necessity. ServiceNow offers analytics solutions that empower enterprises to get granular-level visibility into business operations, make informed decisions, be future-ready, and gain a competitive advantage.
Now, to enable advanced analytics and further enhance the platform experience for users, ServiceNow is all set to make Platform Analytics its default analytics solution. Consequently, organizations using ServiceNow’s traditional Dashboards, Performance Analytics Widgets, Reports, and Filters must now migrate to ServiceNow Platform Analytics to create an immersive user experience.
Let us delve into what ServiceNow Platform Analytics is, why ServiceNow has introduced this migration, and how to execute platform analytics migration.

Understanding ServiceNow Platform Analytics

ServiceNow Platform Analytics presents insights extracted from data gathered from multiple sources on an intuitive interface. It comes with two sections, which include:
1. Library
The library section displays a collection of pages with the Platform Analytics components, which are used to create dashboards, charts, graphs, and filters for effective data visualization. It also allows users to create a shared library containing the custom components they’ve developed, enabling other team members to leverage the visualizations.
2. Analytics Center
All the bookmarked and customized dashboards are displayed in the Analytics Center section. It provides users with a Q&A feature, which can be used to ask questions using natural language.

Why Migrate to ServiceNow Platform Analytics?

The current ServiceNow analytics solution has an outdated interface and requires users to navigate through complex menus and functionalities to perform tasks. For example, users need to click one option to create a filter and another to access performance analytics. Recognizing the inefficiencies involved in constantly switching between tabs on the platform to perform tasks, ServiceNow has introduced Platform Analytics.
Compared to the traditional ServiceNow Core UI, Platform Analytics offers powerful tools housed in one central location with a more modern interface for advanced data visualization and analysis. It goes beyond basic reporting, enabling enterprises to explore data from different angles and uncover insights that are not possible with ServiceNow’s traditional analytics solution. By eliminating multiple clicks and configurations, ServiceNow Platform Analytics saves users three-quarters of the time required to access analytics.
Additionally, User Experience Analytics, a key feature of Platform Analytics, empowers administrators to gain a holistic view of user activity across various ServiceNow applications such as ServiceNow Mobile, Virtual Agent, Next Experience UI, and more on a single dashboard.
Based on the user’s role, the overview dashboard presents the relevant application insights, including Total Active Users, Number of Sessions and Average Sessions Per User, Number of Page Views, and Average Session Duration. The feature also provides insights into how UI components are utilized on the platform. Leveraging these insights, enterprises can dramatically improve the user experience across their ServiceNow applications.
So, moving the existing dashboards, reports, filters, and performance analytics widgets from the classic ServiceNow Core UI to the new Platform Analytics can significantly redefine the way organizations visualize data and make decisions.

Migrating to Platform Analytics is mandatory, as ServiceNow, in February 2024, announced its plan to phase out the traditional ServiceNow Core UI reports and dashboards by its Zurich release in 2025. Therefore, organizations need to migrate promptly to experience new and advanced data visualizations and analysis on the platform. Platform Analytics becomes the default solution for organizations implementing ServiceNow in the Xanadu release.

How to Migrate to ServiceNow Platform Analytics?

An effective strategy is required to ensure a smooth ServiceNow Platform Analytics migration. The Platform Analytics Migration Center enables enterprises to migrate to Platform Analytics effectively. Here’s a step-by-step process for migrating to ServiceNow Platform Analytics:
1. Eliminate Unused Dashboards and Reports
The first step in ServiceNow Platform Analytics Migration is to remove inactive dashboards and reports to ensure a smooth migration process. By going to pa_dashboards.list, enterprises can select the dashboards and delete them in bulk using the “Actions on Selected Rows” function. Similar steps apply to deleting reports within the platform.
2. Move the Content
After removing unused content, enterprises can initiate the migration process by navigating to the Platform Analytics interface and clicking “Start Moving”. The system automatically identifies content compatible with the migration and performs the procedure. Content that requires complex logic or customization might be placed under “Compatibility Mode” in the Platform Analytics interface, which can only be updated by Admins.
3. Assess the Migration Outcomes
The third step involves reviewing the migrated content. This includes identifying any unused dashboards or out-of-date visualizations that may have been migrated, which need to be addressed.
4. Activate ServiceNow Platform Analytics Migration
The final step of ServiceNow Platform Analytics Migration is to activate the process. Following the activation, the traditional ServiceNow Core UI reports and dashboards will appear on the ServiceNow Platform Analytics window. The activation time varies depending on the volume of content being migrated.
After migrating all content to Platform Analytics, the authorized users can view and access it through the Unified Navigation Platform Analytics module.
