The healthcare tech company aimed to help provider organizations comply with CMS’ (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) transparency guidelines. Patients lacked a way to compare medications covered across different health plans based on factors such as drug pricing, limitations on drug use, and other relevant criteria. This impacted access to cost-effective medication and treatment options. This was critical to enhance transparency and build stronger relationships with patients.
We developed an advanced Drug Intelligence Dashboard to help the healthcare tech company empower provider organizations with drug/formulary transparency.
The solution leveraged the Databricks Data Lake Architecture to seamlessly integrate large volumes of publicly available data from multiple payers, typically presented in Machine-Readable Files (MRFs).
These MRFs (in non-proprietary, open formats – JSON, XML, CSV), containing valuable but complex information, were otherwise difficult for direct consumers or providers to interpret. By building a data platform, we enabled seamless ingestion of these large Machine-Readable files, effectively standardized the data using our unique Data Transformation Architecture, and provisioned the healthcare data for analytics and AI.
The sophisticated algorithms in our solution analyzed critical factors such as drug costs, formulary restrictions, copayments, deductibles, and any coverage limitations. This enabled a comparative analysis of the medications covered by different health plans based on the determined factors to overcome the transparency challenge.
